Best Anime of the 1940s

Continuing from the earlier film, this movie again features Momotaro, the "Peach Boy" from Japanese folklore. It focuses on the surprise operation on Sulawesi island, showing parachute troops in action. The entire film also portrays Japan's "liberation of Asia" as declared by the government during that era. Several musical numbers appear, notably The Song of AIUEO (アイウエオの歌, AIUEO no Uta), a sequence where Japanese soldiers instruct local animals in speech.

A spider spins its web, hoping to catch a ladybug, but the ladybug escapes by hiding inside a tulip. When a violent storm arrives, the spider is tossed around by the wind, while the ladybug stays sheltered within the flower.

In "Momotaro's Sea Eagles," Momotaro orchestrates an unexpected airborne assault to destroy the vessels of Demon Island, enlisting his animal companions to serve as the crew and pilots for the operation.

Tora-chan and Miike are deeply absorbed in playing while their older sister gets ready for her wedding. A letter from Grandfather comes out of the blue, declaring that he will not permit the marriage as long as he is alive. Eager to get married, the couple rushes to the church before Grandfather can stop them. But Grandfather has just brought his boat to the dock and is already on his way. Can Tora-chan and Miike keep him busy enough for their sister's wedding to proceed without a hitch?

In "Fuku-chan no Sensuikan," Fuku-chan is one of Japan's most beloved newspaper comic strip boys of that era. The story centers on a submarine assault targeting an enemy freighter. Beyond its patriotic themes, the sequences depicting the submarine's kitchen staff cooking meals were especially popular among Japanese children. Released in November during a severe food scarcity in Japan, the submarine's kitchen was stocked with plentiful provisions—including vegetables, fruits, fish, rice, and other items that had become rare luxuries—which were turned into a variety of dishes accompanied by a cheerful, rhythmic melody.
