Synopsis
In "The Faraway Paladin," Will is reborn into a different world after a mundane life. Waking up, he finds himself cared for by a skeleton, a ghost, and a mummy in the crumbling ruins of an old city. These three undead beings raise him as family: Blood the skeleton teaches him combat, Gus the ghost instructs him in magic, and Mary the mummy guides him in faith and responsibility. They instill in him the value of love. As Will grows and learns about his surroundings, he prepares to enter the wider world. This transition involves a serious rite of passage where young people pledge loyalty to a deity, with the strength of their dedication affecting the divine favor they receive. With his departure approaching, Will confronts the truth behind his guardians' identities and steps into a world they barely know. Through this, he learns that every promise comes with a price.
