Synopsis
After a terrorist strike on a Japanese nuclear plant leaves only the word "VON" scrawled in red, the government is paralyzed and law enforcement struggles to identify the culprits. Six months later, a cryptic video surfaces online featuring two teenage boys calling themselves "Sphinx." They directly challenge the police, warning of impending chaos and destruction in Tokyo. As panic spreads and leads remain scarce, Detective Kenjirou Shibazaki finds himself at the center of the crisis while authorities struggle to counter the threat. "Zankyou no Terror" follows Nine and Twelve, the teenagers behind the Sphinx alias. Despite their mysterious origins, they navigate a world of deception and secrecy, seeking revenge while confronting their painful pasts, ultimately working to destabilize the city.
Background
Episodes 1 and 2 were previewed at a screening in Los Angeles at Anime Expo on July 5, 2014. Regular broadcasting began on July 11, 2014. In an interview with Otaku USA Magazine director Shinichirou Watanabe stated that the music of Icelandic band Sigur Rós gave him visual images that inspired the series and its soundtrack. He also states that the team went to Iceland to record the music.
