Synopsis

Continues the story of Yo-kai Watch Shadowside: The Return of the Oni King

Set three decades after the events of the original Youkai Watch TV series, the story begins with Keita Amano, an 11-year-old boy who once owned a wristwatch capable of commanding Youkai. Through that watch, Keita befriended many Youkai and accomplished numerous great deeds. However, as Keita grew older, the ability to see Youkai faded. The wristwatch itself, because its power threatened to disrupt the balance between the human world and the Youkai world, was cast away into oblivion beyond time and space. In time, the tale of the Youkai-controlling wristwatch became nothing more than a legend. Then, after many years passed, something happened: an epidemic Youkai virus called Onimaro began affecting people with malevolent intentions. Spreading without limit, the virus transformed those infected into Kaodeka Oni and threw the city into chaos. With the end approaching, only those chosen by a new Youkai Watch can rise against the coming threat and save both Youkai and humans from certain destruction.

In this installment

Following the fourth movie, the story follows 11-year-old Keisuke Amano, younger sibling of Natsume and child of Keita Amano and Fumika Kodama from the original Youkai Watch series. Keisuke remains skeptical about supernatural beings. However, he becomes curious when he notices his sister frequently returning home later than usual. After following her, he discovers she is exorcising evil Youkai with her friends Touma and Akinori, while also running a Youkai detective agency. Once this truth comes to light, Natsume lets him join their work, dealing with Youkai-related crimes and confronting harmful Youkai to protect the city.
