In this installment
The Capsules Project, launched by Bilibili, seeks to support original Chinese animators by bringing together skilled creators from diverse backgrounds to produce independent short animations in any style they prefer. This initiative explores the possibilities of Chinese animation, with each short film representing a creative pursuit. In its second season, the series broadens audiences' understanding of domestic animation through the unique qualities of short films. These include science fiction narratives examining technological consciousness, coming-of-age stories centered on female self-discovery and resolution, and tales that demonstrate compassion for marginalized groups. The visual approaches range widely, from traditional Chinese ink wash painting and Ghibli-like illustration styles to retro, high-contrast black-and-white designs.
