Synopsis

In a world forsaken by God, life is plagued by an endless loop where death no longer occurs and birth is impossible, causing the dead to wander among the living. Just before vanishing entirely, God left behind a single final gift: the creation of gravekeepers—mysterious beings who can grant the departed true rest through proper burial. Ai, a cheerful yet naive girl, carries on her late mother's work as the village's gravekeeper. After a man named Hampnie Hambart, who claims to be Ai's father, appears and slaughters everyone in her village, Ai becomes homeless and lost. She decides to follow this enigmatic stranger on his journey. During her travels, Ai focuses on her gravekeeper role—bringing peace to the dead and assisting the living—while slowly uncovering the truth behind the world's bleak state caused by God's departure.
