As Joe begins fifth grade alongside his friends, the formidable duelist Abaku Onifuda announces the "King of Duelmatch," a tournament to determine the world's strongest player. This draws powerful rivals to Joe's city, challenging both him and his companions.

Duel Masters King Max follows Joe Kirifuda, a boy who loves to draw and play Duema. He brings to life a talking deck case named Deckie that can summon creatures, along with his sidekick Jokers, and takes on his rivals in duels! Now a sixth grader and a bit more grown up, Joe still enjoys dueling with his friends. Their peaceful days are disrupted when Abaku, a man who fell under a demon's spell and became one himself, reappears. What exactly is Abaku after...? Joe's journey is heading toward its final showdown!
