Folktales from Japan
Furusato Saisei: Nippon no Mukashibanashi
ふるさと再生 日本の昔ばなし
Synopsis
In many countries, children are raised on tales handed down by family members, and Japan is no exception. Stories like the boy born from a peach, the moon princess discovered inside a bamboo stalk, and the elderly man who brings a withered cherry tree back to bloom are passed from generation to generation. These short narratives teach children to recognize both the light and dark sides of life, conveying traditional moral values along the way. Each thirty-minute installment of Folktales from Japan features three self-contained stories, ranging from familiar to obscure, with particular emphasis on heartwarming tales originating from Tohoku—the northern region severely affected by the 2011 earthquake. May this program offer encouragement to those impacted by the disaster and shine a light of hope for them.
