Synopsis
One night, high school student Kazuki Muto is killed while saving a mysterious girl from a monster, only to wake up in his school dorm believing it was all a dream. But that dream turns out to be real when a giant serpentine monster attacks him and his sister. The girl he saved, Tokiko Tsumura, explains that the creature is a homunculus. Kazuki had been attacked and killed by it during the rescue. Feeling responsible, she revived him by placing a Kakugane medallion in his chest to serve as a replacement heart. Tokiko explains that the Kakugane is an alchemical device which, when activated, takes on a form based on its user, creating a unique Buso Renkin. The Buso Renkin is the only weapon capable of destroying a homunculus. Kazuki awakens his own Buso Renkin, the "Sunlight Heart," a massive lance. Alongside Tokiko and her Buso Renkin, the "Valkyrie Skirt," an execution scythe, Kazuki joins the fight against the homunculi and their master.
