Continues the story of Darker Than Black: Gemini of the Meteor OVAs
After fleeing the consequences of his choice at Hell's Gate, the Contractor Hei and his companion Yin take refuge in a quiet inn, posing as a married couple to avoid detection. As they try to move past their recent hardships, Hei starts to develop connections with the inn's other guests. He soon learns that one of them is a Contractor sent to kill him. The resulting clash endangers both Hei and Yin, compelling them to battle for survival and confront the emotional scars left by their past.
In this installment
In the follow-up season, Hei and Yin are fugitives after betraying the Syndicate in the prior installment. After departing Japan, Hei meets Suou Pavlichenko, a 13-year-old Eurasian girl who gets pulled into the conflicts and political maneuvers of various factions and Contractors competing for dominance. Meanwhile, Hell's Gate remains intact in Tokyo, following Hei's actions to prevent the Saturn Ring anti-Gate particle weapon from activating. While Contractors are no longer at risk of having their existences erased, that doesn't stop new and existing Contractors from misusing their powers. As Misaki Kirihara and her team at the Public Security Bureau handle the rising number of Contractor incidents, she also must hold off the Syndicate, which holds significant influence in the Japanese police and intelligence agencies around the globe. The story's setting primarily unfolds in both Japan and Russia.
