Secrets of Akko-chan

Synopsis

Atsuko "Akko-chan" Kagami—also known as "Stilly," "Caroline," or "Julie" in Western adaptations—is a lively elementary school girl with a special fondness for mirrors. One day, the mirror she loves most, a present from her mother (or, in some versions, from her father as a souvenir from India), gets broken. Rather than throw it in the trash, she chooses to bury it in her yard. In her dreams, she is contacted by a spirit—in some cases, the Queen of the Mirror Kingdom—who is touched that the girl would treat the mirror with such respect instead of simply discarding it. Akko-chan is then given a magical mirror and taught an enchantment that lets her transform into anything she wishes.
