Sekirei

Synopsis

At nineteen, Minato Sahashi is a promising but struggling student who has twice failed his college entrance exams, often dismissed by his peers as a hopeless loser with no future. His life changes dramatically when Musubi, a strikingly beautiful and powerful alien known as a Sekirei, crashes into his world. Sekirei are extraterrestrial beings with extraordinary abilities that can be activated in humans carrying the Ashikabi gene through a kiss. Believing in Minato's hidden potential, Musubi bonds with him by kissing him, linking them together and pulling Minato into the dangerous Sekirei Plan, a deadly tournament where Sekirei fight one another. Unbeknownst to Minato, the true stakes of this conflict go far beyond the battles themselves.

Background

Sekirei's English adaptation was done by FUNimation in 2010, two years after its initial Japanese release. The series covers approximately the first fifty chapters of the manga on which it is based.
