Twilight Out of Focus

Synopsis

In "Twilight Out of Focus," second-year students Mao Tsuchiya and Hisashi Ootomo have resumed living together in their shared dorm room for another academic year, despite their initial friction. They follow three key rules: Mao must keep quiet about Ootomo being gay and in a relationship; Ootomo must not develop romantic feelings for Mao; and both must give each other personal space. These conditions come under strain when the school's film club starts a new production. The club decides to make a boys' love short film starring a class president and a delinquent, roles that suit Ootomo perfectly. As the main cameraperson, Mao is responsible for capturing the intimate scenes between the actors. Even as he tries to suppress his emotions, his growing crush on Ootomo begins to affect his work. With rising tension both on and off screen, Mao is forced to face the complicated feelings he has been avoiding.
