The Morose Mononokean

Synopsis

Hanae Ashiya's first week of high school is a disaster; he spends it in the school infirmary because of a strange illness that only gets worse. The problem started when a weird, fuzzy creature latched onto him after a random encounter just before the term began. As Hanae's condition deteriorates and the creature swells, he notices a flyer advertising an exorcist who deals with yokai. With no other options and growing desperation, he calls the number and is directed to the Mononokean, a tea room that appears out of nowhere next to the infirmary. A gloomy man named Haruitsuki Abeno agrees to help Hanae but asks for payment. Since he cannot afford it, Hanae ends up working at the Mononokean to pay off his debt. To make things worse, his new boss turns out to be one of his classmates. To settle what he owes, Hanae must join forces with Abeno to guide a series of dangerous, strange, and fascinating yokai back to the Underworld.
