The 2019 installment of the Duel Masters anime picks up the story of Joe Kirifuda, the child of the legendary duelist Katta. Two years after his father left for the creature world, Joe and his mother relocate to a new town. As a young duelist who admires Western gunslingers, Joe sets off on his own quest to find his missing father.

The 2020 installment of the Duel Masters anime features Joe Kirifuda, the son of former champion Katta. Joe has a passion for drawing and can animate his creature sketches with the aid of Deckie, a deck case that can talk. When it is revealed that the Kirifuda family holds a hidden treasure scroll connected to 12 legendary cards spanning 4,000 years of history, Joe must safeguard the scroll and collect all 12 cards while others plot to take them.
