Synopsis

In "Journal with Witch," thirty-five-year-old novelist Makio Koudai has a tense relationship with her older sister, Minori, due to constant criticism over her differences. When news of Minori and her husband's fatal car crash reaches Makio, she feels little sorrow. However, during the process of identifying the bodies, she meets her fifteen-year-old niece, Asa Takumi, whom she hasn’t seen in a long time. As Asa grapples with the loss of her parents, Makio comforts her, explaining that mixed emotions are natural, and encourages her to maintain a journal as a means of coping. With no other family members willing to take care of Asa, Makio steps up to be her guardian, despite her lack of experience in raising a child. In this uncertain world, the unlikely pair must navigate their new living situation together, learning about each other and themselves in the process.
