Continues the story of The Westward: The Kingdom of Shadow
This later season of the Chinese donghua The Westward (Xi Xing Ji) picks up the reimagined Journey to the West narrative. After the conflict in the South China Sea, Tang Sanzang's party advances further west while Sun Wukong is reborn in the underworld. Meanwhile, Ao Xue—sentenced to death by the Dragon Clan—is rescued by Gu Long, only to encounter new peril. Along the way, the travelers once again meet the Bull Demon King and the bison clan.
In this installment
Heaven orchestrated the journey to the West as a divine scheme. After the Sutra vanished for over a decade, Heaven dispatched its troops to recover it. In order to stop Heaven from reclaiming the Sutra, the westward pilgrimage was initiated once more.
