The Westward: The Fantasy Cave

Synopsis

The 2018–2022 Chinese donghua The Westward (Xi Xing Ji) adapts Zheng Jianhe's manhua, which itself draws from the classic novel Journey to the West. The story unveils the westward pilgrimage as a scheme orchestrated by Heaven: after the sacred sutra disappears for more than a decade, Heaven dispatches its armies to retrieve it, compelling Tang Sanzang and his companions to resume their journey westward so the sutra does not end up back in Heaven's possession.
