Having moved on to college, Koyomi Araragi—once a high school senior who aided local girls with supernatural troubles—now leaves his friends to handle new monster-related issues independently. Yotsugi Ononoki, originally a human corpse currently reanimated as a living doll, moves in with Araragi's family to care for his younger sister Tsukihi, who conceals a hidden mystical power. Assuming Araragi's role as an occult specialist, Yotsugi begins offering assistance to others in the community facing supernatural problems. Among those she aids is Nadeko Sengoku, a middle-school student recovering from her own paranormal encounter. She avoids attending school and stays home, concentrating on her aspiration to become a professional manga artist. To speed up her artistic growth, Yotsugi persuades Nadeko to generate four clones, each embodying a different aspect of her personality. But these clones rebel, fleeing into the town and causing chaos. With her identity fragmented, Nadeko starts a journey to retrieve her clones and resolve her inner conflicts.
