In "Ascendance of a Bookworm," Urano Motosu is a passionate reader who devours literature of every kind. Just before she can achieve her dream of becoming a librarian, her life is cut short by an accident. As she fades away, she wishes for a future filled with books. Her wish is granted when she is reborn as Myne, a frail five-year-old in a medieval world. Though she is thrilled by the prospect of reading, Myne is disheartened by the extreme rarity of books, which are handcrafted and expensive, making them accessible only to the nobility. Undeterred, Myne remains determined to find a way to read, and she resolves that if books are not available, she will create them herself.

In "Ascendance of a Bookworm Season 2," Myne discovers the Holy Church uses mana for its relics, recognizing an opportunity to address her critical mana disorder. Impressed by their extensive library, she eagerly pursues admission to the Church. In exchange for her service and abundant mana, Myne receives the status of a noble-born apprentice priestess, despite her common origins. For her, titles and mana concerns are insignificant compared to her newfound access to books. Transitioning to this new phase in her world, Myne finds that achieving her dream comes with substantial sacrifices. The noble hierarchy is cruel and politically charged, leaving little room for compassion. She faces discrimination between the noble blue robes and common grey ones, the High Priest's schemes against her, and challenges with her new retainers. With support from her family, friends, and the enigmatic Head Priest whose motives remain unknown, Myne overcomes these obstacles to advance on her path toward becoming the ultimate librarian.
