Synopsis
Continues the story of Love Live! School Idol Project 2
Otonokizaka High School was saved from closure thanks to μ's efforts, even though they withdrew from the first Love Live! competition. Now, a new and larger Love Live! event is approaching, and the nine girls reunite to give their all once again. As the school year comes to an end, the impending graduation of the third-year students casts a shadow over their dreams. While striving to excel in Love Live!, they must also face the difficult decision of whether to continue without their graduating members or to disband. With graduation looming, the girls must navigate the challenges of singing, dancing, laughing, and crying as they decide μ's destiny in their final chance to compete as a full team of nine.

Following the third-year students' graduation, μ's receives an invitation to perform in New York, aiming to spread the school idol spirit worldwide. With Love Live! now behind them, μ's has gained considerable fame, drawing large crowds wherever they appear. Yet this rising popularity forces them into tough decisions. Before announcing their choice, μ's faces pressure from rivals such as A-RISE, Otonokizaka High School, and the Love Live! organization itself to keep performing. As their leader, Honoka Kousaka begins to doubt whether the path they've chosen is truly best, leading μ's to reconsider their options and decide their future direction. Love Live! The School Idol Movie presents the final chapter of μ's journey, as the girls explore the true meaning of being an idol and the strong bond connecting all nine members.
Background
Love Live! The School Idol Movie ended its 202-day theatrical run in Japan on December 31, 2015. During that time, it earned 2.86 billion yen in the Japanese box office. The movie was nominated for the Animation of the Year award at the 39th Japan Academy Prize. It won the Animation of the Year award in the Film category at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival in 2016.
