Synopsis
Mirai, an upgraded Kongou-class Aegis guided missile destroyer, ranks among the most advanced vessels in the Japanese Self Defense Force (SDF). Her crew, relatively inexperienced, is commanded by Captain Umezu Saburo with Executive Officer Kadomatsu Yosuke as second-in-command. During routine training exercises, Mirai is caught in a violent storm that temporarily disrupts their navigation systems. After recovering moments later, the crew is astonished to find themselves transported back in time to June 4, 1942—the Battle of Midway during World War II. They allow history to unfold naturally during this engagement, steering clear of direct involvement and pledging to remain hidden, altering the past as minimally as possible. However, when they encounter the gravely wounded Lieutenant Commander Kusaka Takumi, XO Kadomatsu's instinct to preserve life overrides caution, setting in motion far greater changes to history than he could ever foresee.
