Synopsis
This animated film draws on five selections from Tezuka Osamu's essay collection "Essay in Idleness of Insects," where he documented his research on bugs. While the volume largely consists of scholarly studies, it also features insect observation notes that culminate in literary insights tinged with mystical or fantastical overtones. Each of the five essays is rendered using a distinct animation style, and every segment is followed by a sequence showing the young Tezuka Osamu alongside a swallowtail butterfly named "Oomurasaki." The movie portrays the boy Tezuka Osamu frantically pursuing Oomurasaki with his butterfly net, along with the visions he encounters in his dreams. This piece was presented at the exhibition "Tezuka Osamu: Images of the Past and Future."
