In his first year of high school, Raidou aims to make friends, starting with Reina Aharen, the cute, small, and quiet girl sitting next to him. Unknown to Raidou, Reina also wants the same thing, but her social anxiety and shyness make it hard for her to handle personal boundaries in her relationships. Because Reina struggles to tell how close is too close, their growing friendship runs into many problems, turning even simple conversations into a challenge. Even so, through these constant, small hurdles, the creative Raidou stays set on building a solid connection with the mysterious Reina.

In the second season of "Aharen-san wa Hakarenai," Reina Aharen, a shy and reserved high school student, continues to navigate her friendships and relationship with her classmate, Raidou. As they progress into their second year of high school, Reina and Raidou find themselves seated together once more, and life seems to be going well. Then, a new transfer student, Riku Tamanaha, enters their class. To Reina's surprise, Riku turns out to be an old childhood friend who had been separated from her for many years. Thanks to Raidou’s encouragement, Reina manages to reconnect with Riku. Even as Reina and Raidou grow closer, communication remains challenging due to Raidou’s vivid imagination and Reina’s struggle to express her feelings. Despite these hurdles, their unique relationship brings joy and warmth to everyone around them as they continue to cherish each other's presence.
