Synopsis

Kaoru Nishimi, a reserved classical pianist and top student, transfers to Kyushu for his first year of high school after moving around often as a child. He expects another lonely year until he meets Sentarou Kawabuchi, a known troublemaker. Sentarou’s intense passion for jazz inspires Kaoru to explore the genre, helping him step out of his shell and form his first real friendship. He joins after-school jazz sessions in the basement of Ritsuko Mukae’s family-run record store, finding joy in using his musical talent to bring happiness. This summer could become a cherished memory as Kaoru experiences meaningful growth and connection through music. "Sakamichi no Apollon" is a touching story of friendship, music, and romance, following three unique characters brought together by their love for jazz.
