Synopsis

In an era where airships and airplanes are a daily sight, the young Sheeta is seized by government agents upon the discovery of her enigmatic crystal pendant. Held in despair aboard a flying vessel, her fate shifts when pirates attack, offering her an opportunity to flee. There, she encounters Pazu, a boy determined to locate the mythical floating fortress known as Laputa. Together, they embark on a journey to find this castle in the sky, while government forces relentlessly hunt them down for their own selfish reasons. Tenkuu no Shiro Laputa follows the exciting exploits of Sheeta and Pazu, illustrating how shared aspirations and perilous circumstances can create an unbreakable bond between two souls.

Background

Tenkuu no Shiro Laputa was the first film to be produced and released by Studio Ghibli. It won the Animage Anime Grand Prix in 1986.
