Subsequently, he becomes the first victim of the mysterious 'Chanelman,' who is actually Kinnikuman in disguise. When the WSF aligns with Kinnikuman’s masquerade, Rhodes attacks Alien Sheik, only to have his face ripped off by Skull Bozu. Following the WSF's attempt to steal the belt by orchestrating the death of Kinnikuman and Robin Mask in their rematch over the Grand Canyon, Rhodes reappears with a metal plate replacing his missing face. Alongside the rest of the WSC, he joins a riot to seize the belt. After God Von Erich declares a tag tournament to determine the leadership of the American Choujin world, Jean Steamboard is chosen as his partner, forming the tag team known as The Emperors.
