Ran, Ryuuren

Ran, Ryuuren

Summary

Ran Ryuuren is the youngest of the five brothers in the Ran family and is eighteen years old. Recognized as a genius, he is considered the most deserving of the family name among his four older siblings. He holds his brothers in low regard, referring to them as foolish rather than by their names; for instance, he calls Shuuei "foolish elder brother the fourth." He also addresses Shuurei as "Soul Friend #1" and Yougetsu as "Soul Friend #2.5." Ran is highly impulsive and acts on his own schedule. In one incident involving Shuurei, a trip to buy ingredients for chicken stew spiraled into a series of trades—swapping soybeans for boiled eggs, then for spring onions, wood blocks, flowers, fish, and finally straw, which he gave to a little girl, leaving him with nothing but a single stalk. He is also prone to erratic behavior, such as going ghost hunting after hearing rumors of a late-night spirit or playing his flute unexpectedly and often off key. His unpredictable nature makes him difficult to control but essential to the Ran family, even though many find him strange and annoying, causing them to keep their distance. Shuurei is the only one who tolerates his antics, leading him to designate her as his soul friend. Additionally, Kurou notes that Ran is a potential candidate for Shuurei’s political marriage.
