Summary
Ciel Phantomhive is a twelve-year-old, later thirteen-year-old, human nobleman and the current Earl of the Phantomhive family. Born on December 14, 1875, he stands between 152 cm and 158 cm tall, with dark navy blue hair and heterochromatic eyes: purple in the right and blue in the left. The right eye is covered by a black eyepatch that conceals the pentacle mark of his Faustian Contract, which binds the demon Sebastian Michaelis to his service. A brand from his time as a slave after his mansion was burned down is also visible on his back. As the heir to the Phantomhive legacy, Ciel manages the Funtom Company, which produces toys and sweets, and later expands into food after securing a Royal Warrant. Beyond his business duties, he serves as the Watchdog of the Queen, investigating black market activities that fall outside the jurisdiction of Scotland Yard. He took over the family headship following the murder of his parents, Lord Vincent and Lady Rachel Phantomhive, an event that occurred on his birthday when his home was set ablaze. This tragedy has made him reluctant to celebrate his birthday and driven him to protect those close to him, including his cousin and fiancée, Elizabeth Midford, whom he views as a vital friend to shield from harm. Despite his youth, Ciel is composed, mature, and often aloof, preferring to focus on his work. He can appear selfish and struggles with deep empathy, though he shows occasional concern for his companions. His short stature is frequently used as a source of comic relief, with Sebastian often teasing him about it. In the anime, Ciel grows by six centimeters in the second season, remaining shorter than most other characters, whereas in the manga, he does not grow taller. Ciel has a keen palate for tea and sweet desserts but suffers from asthma inherited from his mother and dislikes cats due to his allergies.
