Summary
Unicorn Yato is the Saint of the Unicorn constellation, active during the 18th Century. He served as a partner to Pegasus Tenma within the Sanctuary, though the two maintained a strained and hostile relationship. In the manga, Yato was defeated during an early mission, seemingly by Alone-Hades or one of his subordinates, leading the other Saints to believe he had perished. Contrary to expectations, Yato survived and encountered a critically injured Tenma. While attempting to carry his unconscious partner to safety, they were confronted by a Lemurian girl named Yuzuriha. Yato initially attacked her, mistaking her for an enemy, but a subsequent conversation revealed that she was actually an ally. Yuzuriha then teleported both of them to Jamir in Tibet. There, the Lemurian Master Hakurei repaired Yato’s Cloth using Yuzuriha’s blood. The restored Cloth bore a resemblance to the Pegasus Cloth worn by Seiya during the Poseidon Saga. Despite claiming that he is neither as powerful nor as significant as his partners, Yato regards fighting alongside them as an honor. His only displayed technique is the Unicorn Gallop, a devastating kick. Yato harbors a crush on Sasha, often becoming irritable when Tenma mentions her, although the true nature of these feelings remains unconfirmed in the narrative. Over the course of the series, Yato repeatedly risks his life to aid Tenma, initially motivated by a desire to prevent Sasha’s sorrow, but later driven by genuine friendship.
