Summary
Master Nekomamushi is a feline mink who serves as the guardian of the Whale Forest on Zou, earning the title "Ruler of Night." He shares rule of the Mokomo Dukedom with Duke Inuarashi, governing specifically during the nighttime hours from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM. He takes immense pride in this position, famously declaring the nation to be his when night falls upon his first meeting with Jack. In contrast to his former friend Inuarashi, Nekomamushi is aggressive and merciless. Inuarashi has labeled him an "obstinate and stubborn imbecile," noting similarities between Nekomamushi and Jack. This stubbornness persists even when he is not angry; for instance, he ignored Chopper’s orders to recuperate simply to have fun. He strongly dislikes being commanded, asserting that he went to bed of his own volition rather than following Chopper’s instructions, and describes himself as a "freedom-loving man." Despite this bravado, he has a notable fear of needles. He demonstrated a welcoming nature by caring for Bepo and the other Heart Pirates when they arrived on Zou. While he does not expect guests to assist in defending the island, he holds no such leniency for intruders, threatening to devour anyone he identifies as such. His habits resemble those of a cat, as he enjoys licking his paws, playing with balls and cat toys, and consuming catnip. However, unlike most felines, he loves taking baths. His favorite food is lasagne.
