Summary
Mai Sakurajima is the female protagonist of the Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai series. A seventeen to eighteen-year-old third-year student at Minegahara High School, she shares her academic level with Sakuta Azusagawa. Outside of school, she works as a model and actress. Born on December 2 under the Sagittarius sign, she has an AB blood type and stands 165 centimeters tall. Mai presents a serious demeanor, particularly when interacting with Sakuta. She is generally polite, levelheaded, helpful, and kind, though she can become snappy or even violent toward Sakuta when easily annoyed. Rather than confronting unpleasant emotions, she tends to suppress them. Sakuta frequently accuses her of being dishonest and lying about her true feelings. Despite her sharp tongue, she possesses a pure heart and can appear shy when faced with Sakuta’s jokes. She is also highly intelligent, maintaining good grades and occasionally helping Sakuta with his studies. Her career in show business began early due to her mother’s photography agency. Although she initially enjoyed modeling for television and magazines, the pressure of public life became overwhelming. After her mother tricked her into a swimsuit photoshoot, Mai felt used for profit and decided to take a hiatus from acting. This decision led her to attend high school, but prior work commitments delayed her enrollment until the middle of her first year. By then, social groups had already formed, leaving her isolated. Other students avoided her out of fear that associating with the absentee actress would result in their own social exclusion, even without any intent to bully her. After two years of hiatus, Mai visited a library wearing a bunny costume to test if anyone could perceive her. There, she encountered Sakuta Azusagawa, the only person in the building who could see her. After they introduced themselves, Mai instructed Sakuta to forget about her existence.
