Kanou, Arisa
Summary
Arisa Kanou makes her first appearance in Chapter 57 of the manga, titled "Ogress, Part 1," and appears in the anime during Episode 36, simply titled "Ogress." She is a participant in the school’s field hockey squad, where her skills are modest, leading her to seek advice on the sport from Himeko. Although Arisa is not particularly conspicuous, she is known for being kind, attentive, and well-liked by her peers. Initially, Himeko suspects that Arisa is being blackmailed by her classmate Kyōko, but this assumption proves incorrect. In reality, Arisa voluntarily pays Kyōko to avoid drawing attention at school and to prevent any recurrence of bullying she endured during primary school. Coming from a wealthy background, she views money as her primary means of protection. After orchestrating a trap to deceive Himeko, Arisa claims she only befriended her out of pity, which causes Himeko to lose her temper and attack Kyōko’s group. Fearful of Himeko’s reaction, Arisa labels her a monster, and they separate. Years later, while both are in high school, the two encounter each other at a park near their middle school. Arisa explains that she has visited the park daily since their parting, hoping to apologize to Himeko. She finds peace when Himeko grants her forgiveness.
