Chikyuu no Otoko
Summary
Chikyuu no Otoko is a human who embarks on a one-way journey to the Moon. Born after the Gregorian calendar had already been lost to history, he hails from the reconstructed 12th Protective City, a cultural garden designed to sustain a population of 10,000 individuals. He was brought into existence to fulfill the hopes of humanity as part of a designer babies project aimed at genetically engineering specially gifted children. While previous attempts failed because the subjects died upon birth, scientists shifted their focus to altering a human heart that could not be controlled by human consciousness. Chikyuu no Otoko emerged as a successful case of this modified approach, although he was born with hearing loss and a distinct lack of emotional sensitivity.
