Summary

First introduced in Battle 9, Shirahama Mototsugu is a forty-five-year-old man standing at 174cm and weighing 68kg. He is Kenichi and Honoka’s protective father and Saori’s husband. A Dou user specializing in Katsujin Ken and marksmanship, he maintains a fairly lean figure for his age, typically wearing suits from work or casual shirts at home. In his youth, he had a fuller head of hair and a less defined physique. Mototsugu feels a mix of pride and sadness regarding Kenichi’s growth, lamenting that his son is drifting away from him. He often serves as comedic relief through his goofy behavior and extreme over-protectiveness, frequently brandishing his shotgun, Sebastian, to retrieve Kenichi from the Ryozanpaku dojo, especially after hearing about the harshness of his training. He once attempted to force Kenichi to return home and even threatened Tanimoto Natsu when Honoka requested his visit. His wife, Saori, usually intervenes to prevent him from acting rashly or embarrassingly toward their children. Although he claims to have been popular with women Kenichi’s age, it was actually he who sent Saori numerous love letters to win her affection, a strategy that succeeded. She often knocks him on the head to stop his drastic actions, yet the couple shares deep love, and she frequently praises his bravery and seriousness, addressing him as "anata." Shirahama owns two shotguns, Sebastian and Maximilian, which he constantly tries to bring to the dojo to rescue Kenichi, though Saori stops him each time. Despite his foolish demeanor, he is highly skilled in their use, a fact acknowledged by Shigure. When he finally arrives at the dojo with an undisclosed hunting rifle named Ludwig, he demonstrates exceptional competence, carrying Kenichi in one arm and the gun in the other, reloading while moving, and possessing sufficient aim to disable Shigure’s traps.
