Summary
Touya, known as Toya in the English anime adaptation, is a member of the Shadow Channelers who compete in the Dark Tournament. While the group is publicly identified as the Shadow Channelers, their actual designation is the Shinobi of the Spirit World. Touya shares a close bond with Jin, as the two are almost always seen together. Unlike his demonic partner, Touya displays a serious and rather humorless demeanor. He adheres to a personal code of honor, often criticizing team leader Risho for their unethical tactics. Demonstrating strong loyalty to his squad, Touya seeks to kill Kurama after Kurama defeats Gama. He possesses the ability to manipulate ice and cold, and the series strongly implies that he is the most powerful ice demon featured in the narrative. Touya makes his debut during the Dark Tournament, where he faces Kurama. Kurama is initially immobilized and drained of energy due to Gama’s Makeups of Chains and of the Seal. Enraged that Kurama killed Gama in the prior match, Touya unleashes several ice-based techniques. However, Kurama overcomes him by planting the Seed of the Death Plant into his own body and impaling Touya. This maneuver was necessary because Kurama’s Spirit Energy was sealed within him by Gama’s Makeup of the Seal. Following the Dark Tournament, Touya appears in the Saga of the Three Kings anime arc. He is recruited by Kurama to serve under the Demon Lord Yomi, eventually achieving A+ Class status. In the anime, he is depicted as the strongest among the six characters in question. During the Makai Tournament, Touya is defeated by Kuju, an S-Class demon and the brother of Natsume, another S-Class demon whom Chu has romantic feelings for. After the conclusion of the Makai Tournament, Touya, along with Jin, Chu, and Rinku, bids farewell to Yusuke and his companions. Their ultimate whereabouts remain unknown.
