Summary
Kayo Maruta serves as a supporting character and former vice-president of the student council at Aihara Academy. She shares a close friendship with Mitsuko, whom she affectionately calls Micchan. Kayo is one of the rare individuals who can speak to Mitsuko casually without fear, remaining by her side for much of the latter half of the manga. Known as Glasses-senpai, she maintains a formal demeanor with everyone else. Initially, Kayo was rigid and diligent in enforcing rules, even reprimanding Yuzu on her first day. However, she eventually softens, revealing a more gentle side to Micchan, the readers, and the group during the summer trip in volume 8. Her surname and past council position are revealed in the extra chapter of volume 4. Visually, Kayo initially has a dark brown sharp bob and large D-shaped glasses that obscure her light-blue eyes, though she stops wearing them from volume 10 onward. Her hair later grows out into a softer, slightly longer style with more definition. She is often depicted holding her black handbook with her arms crossed over it. The anime adaptation depicts her with light black hair, oval clear glasses, and tapered bangs, differing from the manga’s early rectangular, flat bangs. Her wardrobe primarily consists of her school uniform with the student council armband. Other notable outfits include her summer trip attire in volume 8, featuring a boater hat with a black stripe, a plain t-shirt, dotted frilly shorts, and a striped handbag, as well as a hot springs outfit in the same volume where she is naked. In volume 9, she wears a light outfit with a wide-collared button-up and white bottoms, marking her final appearance with glasses in the main series. By volume 10, her casual outfit comprises a white shirt with thin black stripes, a long-sleeved denim jacket, and black bottoms. In the manga, Kayo appears visually 85 times in total, including five flashbacks, two text bubble heads, and 78 full-drawn appearances.
