Otowa, Hyouko
Summary
Otowa is a character whose appearance resembles that of a drag queen, and who utilizes assassin's weapons concealed all over his body. Although he claims to possess a total of thirteen such devices, only four are actually used during his appearance in the manga. Rather than relying on brute force, his battle strategy centers on outwitting his opponents and catching them off guard with these hidden implements. Personality-wise, Otowa is a sadistic individual who takes pleasure in killing, showing no moral hesitation about murdering women and children. Conversely, he displays cowardly tendencies, as evidenced by his attempt to retreat from the attack on the Kamiya dojo upon encountering Kenshin’s glare. He was formerly friends with the shadow ninja Nakajo, with whom he engaged in nightly competitive killing sprees. Following Nakajo’s death at the hands of Hitokiri Battōsai, Otowa joined Enishi’s Jinchu campaign; however, it is later revealed that his true motivation for participating was simply the desire for amusement. During the assault on the Kamiya dojo, Otowa confronts Yahiko. He nearly kills the boy using several of his weapons before Yahiko ultimately defeats him. As Otowa falls, he wears a crazed smile, unable to comprehend his loss to someone less than half his age. He is subsequently arrested by the police.
