Summary
Nomiya presents himself as a quintessential delinquent, sporting an afro and having dropped out of high school, even pausing to defecate on the school steps before departing permanently. Beneath this exterior, however, he is burdened by intense guilt regarding a traffic accident he caused that left a girl named Yamashita Yasumi paraplegic. An average student with a deep passion for basketball, Nomiya felt lost and devoid of joy after failing to make the school team. While taking Yasumi for a walk, he overheard Togawa practicing and, driven by a hunger for the game, challenged Togawa to a match. Impressed by Togawa’s skill and determination, Nomiya eventually became a mascot-like supporter for the Tigers and a friend to Togawa. Although he rarely gets to play himself, simply being around others who do brings him a sense of purpose.
