WIT Studio Unveils LONA, Cerebral Sci-Fi Original Anime for Spring 2027

The otaku sphere is buzzing after WIT Studio revealed its latest original television anime, LONA (Laboratory of Optics and Neural Analysis), slated for a Spring 2027 premiere.
Set in a broken near-future world, the story follows researcher Ao and her apprentice Sango as they work for a specialized government-backed organization. Humanity faces attacks from humans who should be dead, and LONA's team analyzes the neural circuits and final thoughts of the deceased to unravel the mystery. What lingers in those final moments, and what do the dead leave behind?
The project carries serious pedigree. Acclaimed screenwriter Akiko Nogi, known for live-action hits like Unnatural and MIU404, provides the original story and screenplay. Director Takashi Katagiri, fresh off SPY×FAMILY CODE: White, helms the series at WIT Studio. Character design concepts come from Posuka Demizu of The Promised Neverland fame, with Yūdai Iino handling animation designs.
Voices include Minako Kotobuki as Ao, Anna Nagase as Sango, and Fūka Izumi as Mugen. The studio also dropped teaser visuals and a teaser PV showcasing the project's striking aesthetic and cerebral tone. Additional staff features music by Hiroko Sébu and a deep bench of experienced designers and technicians.
With WIT's track record on visually striking originals and this star creative team, LONA promises to be one of the most anticipated new anime projects heading into 2027. Fans are already eager for more looks at this neuroscience-tinged sci-fi adventure.
