To You in the Beyond Adds Uesaka, Okamoto & Matsuoka Ahead of October Bow

The upcoming theatrical anime To You in the Beyond just got a serious voice-box upgrade. Production has locked Sumire Uesaka, Wataru Hatano, Nobuhiko Okamoto, and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka into supporting roles, expanding the circle around transfer student Kazuki Tsukigase as the film races toward its October 9 Japan opening.

Uesaka voices class honors student Tamaki Mishima; Hatano plays the warm-hearted dormmate Shōji Aiba; Okamoto is blunt friend Akimitsu Yamu; and Matsuoka steps in as Yoshiki Suga, the classmate who treats Kazuki like a rival. They join leads Hiiro Ishibashi and Anna Nagase, plus Simba Tsuchiya, Hiroshi Tamaki, and Naohito Fujiki already on the board.

Alongside the cast drop, the team rolled a full trailer and a luminous new key visual—ice cream, breakwater walks, and that bittersweet island summer glow. Singer-songwriter Tota’s theme, “Olive,” threads through the promo. Junichi Wada (HIGH CARD) directs at TMS Entertainment from Sayaka Kuwamura’s script, with Hechima on character design.

Based on Akiko Abe’s Shueisha novel, the story follows a guarded boy who finds an unconscious girl by a “spirit-abduction inlet”—she claims the year is 1974. With star seiyuu filling out the school and shore, the mystery-romance is primed for a big theatrical push this fall.
