Sekiro: No Defeat Charges into Theaters with New Trailer

The staff for Sekiro: No Defeat released a new theatrical trailer this week, spotlighting the upcoming three-week limited run in Japanese cinemas beginning September 4. The project adapts FromSoftware's acclaimed 2019 action-adventure game into a fully hand-drawn 2D anime, following the one-armed shinobi known as Wolf and his mission to protect the Divine Heir through the brutal conflicts of a fractured Sengoku-era Japan.

Directed by Kenichi Kutsuna at studio Qzil.la, the adaptation features character design by Takahiro Kishida, with music composed by Shuta Hasunuma and a theme song drawn from Ryuichi Sakamoto's catalog. Additional staff credits announced alongside the trailer include liquid art work, color grading, and sound effects roles, rounding out a production built around preserving the game's intense atmosphere and swordplay.

The voice cast brings back key performers from the original game, with Daisuke Namikawa as Wolf, Miyuki Sato as Kuro, Kenjiro Tsuda as Genichiro Ashina, and supporting roles filled by Shizuka Ito, Takaya Hashi, and others. The trailer emphasizes stark visuals, personal stakes between lord and retainer, and the unforgiving world that defined the source material.

Crunchyroll previously confirmed it will stream the series worldwide after the Japan theatrical window, excluding Japan, China, Korea, Russia, and Belarus. With its focus on a cinematic yet faithful take on the game's themes of duty, hardship, and resilience, the new footage has fans eager to see how the story translates to the big screen this fall.
