Science SARU Steers Ghost in the Shell's TV Comeback This July

Science SARU has been tapped as the primary animation studio for the new television adaptation of Masamune Shirow's The Ghost in the Shell, bringing its signature visual approach to one of anime's foundational cyberpunk works. Bandai Namco Filmworks unveiled a dedicated Prime Video trailer confirming the July 7, 2026 premiere date, highlighting the studio's rising role in high-profile productions.

Director Mokochan makes his feature directorial debut on the series after contributing storyboards and key animation to projects like DAN DA DAN and Tatami Time Machine Blues. Script supervision and writing come from Toh Enjoe, while Shūhei Handa handles character design and serves as chief animation director, drawing on his work across Little Witch Academia, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, and Spriggan.

Taisei Iwasaki leads music direction, joined by Ryō Konishi and Yuki Kanesaka, with additional key roles filled by art director Emi Katanosaka and other veterans. The production committee includes Bandai Namco Filmworks, Kodansha, Science SARU, and Production I.G.

The series airs first on Japanese television via the "Ka-Anival!!" block on Kansai TV and Fuji TV at 11:00 p.m. JST on July 7, followed immediately by Prime Video Japan at 11:30 p.m. JST. It will stream simultaneously and exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and regions worldwide, excluding mainland China, Russia, and Vietnam. The first two episodes already received their global premiere screening at Annecy, with a U.S. premiere and staff panel set for Anime Expo in early July.
