MAPPA's 'Jimoto Saiko!' Lands Exclusive Worldwide Netflix Streaming Deal

MAPPA has added a striking new project to its roster with the anime adaptation of usagi's "Jimoto Saiko!" (Hometown is the Best!). The news broke during the studio's 15th anniversary lineup reveal, confirming that the series will stream exclusively worldwide on Netflix.

The manga, which first built buzz through social media posts before seeing print from Saizusha, paints a raw portrait of a hometown consumed by violence, drugs, poverty, and discrimination. It follows a group of young women who cling to an almost defiant pride in their roots, navigating brutal school hierarchies and daily survival in an environment that seems determined to break them.

MAPPA is handling full production duties. Director Tokio Igarashi, scriptwriter Ryō Takada, and character designer Rio lead the team. A teaser visual and promotional video featuring aiko's song "milk" have already surfaced, setting a distinctive tone for the project.

The Netflix partnership continues the streamer's aggressive push into diverse and sometimes challenging anime titles, while giving MAPPA another high-visibility global platform. With the source material already running to multiple volumes, the adaptation has plenty of ground to cover.
