Kadokawa Drives 'The Fake Alchemist' Manga to TV Anime

Kadokawa has officially greenlit a television anime for The Fake Alchemist, the manga that started as an indie web sensation before exploding into a commercial success with over a million copies sold in Japan.
Written by Jirō Sugiura and drawn by Umemaru, the series launched on Kadokawa's KadoComi platform in 2023. It follows Paracelsus, a reincarnated alchemist hiding powerful cheat abilities in the magic-rich city-state of Orichalconia. His quiet life shatters after he enters a contract with Nora, a shaman slave, and meets Coco, an elf who has lost her limbs and senses. What begins as a small act of rescue in a workshop quickly escalates into a sweeping battle involving alchemy, sorcery, space, and the gods.
The publisher dropped a commemorative trailer and teaser visual to mark the reveal. Studio Passione, no stranger to bold fantasy projects, is handling animation. Both creators shared messages of gratitude, with Sugiura calling the news a surprise born from fan support and Umemaru expressing joy at seeing the story reimagined by the new team.
The manga continues serialization, with its fifth volume already on shelves. English editions are available digitally from Kadokawa, while Yen Press handles the print releases, with volume two due later this month.
