GKIDS Drops English Trailer for The Last Blossom Ahead of Aug. 30–31 Screens

Distributor GKIDS has rolled out an English-subtitled trailer for The Last Blossom (Japanese title Housenka), the original feature from Odd Taxi director Baku Kinoshita and writer Kazuya Konomoto. The film will play North American theaters for two nights only—August 30 and 31, 2026—in Japanese with English subtitles, and tickets are already on sale.
Studio CLAP (Pompo the Cinéphile) handled animation and planning. Kinoshita also designed the characters, with Michinoku Toge on concept art. The story follows aging yakuza Akutsu on his final night in a prison cell, trading confessions with a sharp-tongued balsam flower about the woman he loved, a child he would protect at any cost, and whether redemption still has a door open.
The voice lineup spans past and present: Junki Tozuka and Kaoru Kobayashi as Akutsu, Hikari Mitsushima and Yoshiko Miyazaki as Nana, and Pierre Taki as the flower itself. After a Japanese theatrical bow on October 10, 2025 and a slot in Annecy’s 2025 Feature Film Competition, the limited U.S. and Canadian run is the next big-screen stop for one of last year’s most distinctive anime dramas.
