The only one who knows Takeshi's secret is his lazy Saint Bernard, Daisaku, who often provides cutting commentary to the audience using his inner voice. Together, Jo and Takeshi (as Polymar) confront and battle myriad evil organizations, criminal gangs, mutants, and monsters as they fight crime in the futuristic city of Washinkyo (a fusion of Washington and Tokyo).

The series was created by Mitsuru Kaneko and had a limited broadcast on some American local TV stations catering to the Japanese community.

The story of Dame Oyagi follows Damesuke Amano, an unfortunate office worker who endures relentless harassment both at his job and, more notably, within his own home. Contrary to traditional Japanese family dynamics, he holds absolutely no authority or influence over household matters. Amano resides with his wife Onibaba, a domineering and physically abusive woman who takes pleasure in tormenting him; their beautiful teenage daughter Yukiko; and their young son Takobo, who is still in elementary school. Onibaba constantly berates and even assaults her husband, making his life a misery, and Yukiko and Takobo frequently join in, subjecting their father to both physical and psychological abuse. The original manga is said to have caused considerable shock in early 1970s Japan, a time when the father was still conventionally regarded as the head of the household.
