Anime Like Neuro: Supernatural Detective

Ryuu Yamada enters his second year at Suzaku High with hopes of leaving his delinquent past behind, yet he quickly reverts to skipping classes, fighting, and failing grades. Following another summons to the principal's office, he accidentally collides with Urara Shiraishi, an honor student, and a clumsy kiss results in their bodies temporarily swapping. As Ryuu and Urara navigate the complications and possibilities of this mysterious power, they are approached by Toranosuke Miyamura. As the sole member of the Supernatural Studies Club and a student council officer, Miyamura reveals he knows their secret and invites them to join. Together with Miyabi Itou, an eccentric student obsessed with the paranormal, they embark on a quest to uncover the legend of Suzaku High's Seven Witches: seven female students whose unique abilities activate through a kiss. The Supernatural Studies Club launches its inaugural mission to locate all seven witches.

Following his recovery from a vampire incident and various encounters with girls entangled in supernatural events, Koyomi Araragi faces a new bizarre predicament in Nisemonogatari. One morning, he awakens to find himself bound and kidnapped by his girlfriend, Hitagi Senjougahara. She has imprisoned him to shield him from Deishuu Kaiki, a con artist who previously defrauded Hitagi's family and has now drawn Koyomi's sister, Karen, into a dangerous conflict. Upon receiving a desperate call from Karen, however, Araragi breaks free to attempt her rescue. Concurrently, Koyomi's other sister, Tsukihi, grapples with her own troubles. As two enigmatic women enter their lives, Koyomi struggles to discern their true motives while bracing for startling revelations concerning his family that are poised to emerge.

As the Monogatari Series: Second Season unfolds, Koyomi Araragi continues to encounter bizarre events, supernatural beings, and divine figures alongside his close-knit group of friends: the hardworking Tsubasa Hanekawa, the doughnut-loving vampire Shinobu Oshino, the energetic troublemaker Suruga Kanbaru, the bite-prone spirit Mayoi Hachikuji, Koyomi's devoted admirer Nadeko Sengoku, and his enigmatic girlfriend Hitagi Senjougahara. With a new school term beginning and graduation on the horizon, Koyomi must consider his future, the bonds he wishes to maintain, and which companions he will stand by. Yet, as peculiar incidents erupt, Koyomi suddenly disappears and a ferocious tiger-like entity emerges. With Hanekawa becoming its target, she quickly realizes she must learn to defend herself.

In Owarimonogatari, a baffling transfer student named Ougi Oshino joins Naoetsu Private High School and becomes friends with Koyomi Araragi through their mutual acquaintance Kanbaru Suruga, who asks for guidance regarding a strange find. While exploring the school grounds, Ougi notices a classroom that has suddenly appeared in an area that was previously empty, an anomaly hinting at supernatural activity. Araragi and Ougi decide to probe this mystery. Trapped together within this enigmatic room, Araragi discovers that it holds memories of an incident he had previously wiped from his mind.

After Koyomi Araragi and Hitagi Senjougahara graduate, Naoetsu Private High School is mostly populated by unfamiliar students. One remaining student is Suruga Kanbaru, who still carries the Monkey's Paw. When she hears rumors about a mysterious being called the "Devil" that supposedly solves any problem through supernatural means, Kanbaru suspects she might be involved but decides to investigate the claims. Her search leads her to discover that the Devil is actually Rouka Numachi, a former junior high basketball rival who can no longer play due to a leg injury. Rouka offers free advice to those in need, taking on their misfortunes and finding enjoyment in the temporary relief her deceptive solutions provide. While Kanbaru does not see Rouka's actions as truly harmful, she scolds her for being dishonest before going home, feeling reassured that she is not the subject of the gossip. However, she soon realizes there may still be reason to worry—her left hand has returned to its human form.

Koyomi Araragi is occupied with studying for his university entrance exams when he notices that his reflection has vanished from mirrors, a characteristic common to genuine vampires. Troubled by this change, Koyomi turns to Yotsugi Ononoki, a doll-like being, and her master, the immortal anomaly specialist Yozuru Kagenui. After Kagenui identifies the problem, they present Koyomi with a difficult choice: he must relinquish the vampire abilities given to him by Shinobu Oshino or face the complete loss of his human nature.

In the second season of Owarimonogatari, high school senior Koyomi Araragi awakens in a bizarre, desolate void after an encounter with oddity specialist Izuko Gaen. There, he is greeted by a familiar figure in an unsettling new environment. With encouragement from his girlfriend, Hitagi Senjougahara, Araragi delves into the complex mysteries of both his past and current situation in search of answers. His path crosses once more with the peculiar transfer student Ougi Oshino, who presents him with a surprising proposition that could fundamentally alter his world. As he peels back the layers of an apparition's enigma, Araragi uncovers a secret that was never intended to come to light.

Kimihiro Watanuki is cursed with the ability to see spirits and supernatural beings, a power he despises. While walking home one day and tormented by these entities, he feels an uncontrollable pull to enter a strange building. Inside, he meets Yuuko, an enigmatic woman who offers to free him from his unwanted gift if he works at her wish-granting "shop." By accepting this deal, Watanuki starts a path of strange and extraordinary happenings.

Appearances in this world are misleading. In Zoku Owarimonogatari, Araragi navigates this surreal landscape as he struggles to return home and decode the enigmas of this odd universe.

Kimihiro Watanuki lives an uncommon existence, gifted with a rare talent for perceiving spirits. In this follow-up to xxxHOLiC, he persists in laboring for Yuuko, the eccentric proprietor of a mysterious store, who vowed to rid him of his supernatural vision. Yet Yuuko can fulfill that promise only after Watanuki has sufficiently proven himself through his actions. This rule applies to every visitor who comes to the shop wanting a wish fulfilled: the cost must equal the desire. Operating in a realm that connects the living world and the afterlife, Watanuki spends his days performing household tasks for Yuuko and her associates, as well as aiding other clients. Occult Academy centers on Maya, daughter of Waldstein Academy's former headmaster, and Fumiaki Uchida, a time-traveling agent. In 2012, aliens attacked Earth, prompting time travelers to be sent back to 1999 with the mission of locating and destroying the Nostradamus Key—an artifact predicted by Nostradamus to trigger the apocalypse. The narrative shifts to 1999, where Maya intends to take over her father's role as principal and shut down the academy. Her plan is disrupted when she meets Fumiaki, who warns her of the impending catastrophe. Initially doubtful, Maya eventually teams up with Fumiaki to search for the Nostradamus Key. Time agents receive customized mobile phones to assist in their quest. By picturing destruction and photographing a potential key, the user can assess its nature—a calm future in the photo indicates the object is the Nostradamus Key, while images of ruin suggest otherwise. Maya and Fumiaki employ these phones to investigate the series of supernatural events unfolding around them.

Having moved on to college, Koyomi Araragi—once a high school senior who aided local girls with supernatural troubles—now leaves his friends to handle new monster-related issues independently. Yotsugi Ononoki, originally a human corpse currently reanimated as a living doll, moves in with Araragi's family to care for his younger sister Tsukihi, who conceals a hidden mystical power. Assuming Araragi's role as an occult specialist, Yotsugi begins offering assistance to others in the community facing supernatural problems. Among those she aids is Nadeko Sengoku, a middle-school student recovering from her own paranormal encounter. She avoids attending school and stays home, concentrating on her aspiration to become a professional manga artist. To speed up her artistic growth, Yotsugi persuades Nadeko to generate four clones, each embodying a different aspect of her personality. But these clones rebel, fleeing into the town and causing chaos. With her identity fragmented, Nadeko starts a journey to retrieve her clones and resolve her inner conflicts.

In the peculiar shop run by Yuuko, who grants your deepest desires for an appropriate price, Kimihiro Watanuki seeks to rid himself of his ability to see spirits. To pay for this wish, he works for Yuuko, performing tasks such as cleaning, running errands, and assisting her other clients. In xxxHOLiC Shunmuki, Watanuki and his friend and rival, Shizuka Doumeki, join their friend Kohane Tsuyuri and her grandmother for a meal, reflecting on how much they have grown since their first meeting. Later, Watanuki has a dream in which Doumeki's grandfather, Haruka, asks him to retrieve specific items from the family temple's storage room. Accompanied by Doumeki, Watanuki finds that this task resembles a treasure hunt, with each item leading them to the next, culminating in an unforeseen yet fated outcome.

During summer break, while other students enjoy their time off, Kimihiro Watanuki continues working to repay his debt at Yuuko's eccentric shop. As the supernatural troubles that typically plague him lessen, he busies himself with cleaning, cooking, and handling various tasks assigned by Yuuko, who often appears lazy. When Yuuko receives a mysterious invitation to a mansion seeking her wish-granting abilities, Watanuki finds himself caught in a new predicament. Accompanied by Yuuko and his classmate Shizuka Doumeki, they arrive at the enigmatic estate and discover other guests have also been invited. These individuals are collectors of rare artifacts, tempted by the promise of new treasures. However, when the collectors start vanishing without explanation, Watanuki and his companions must uncover the truth behind the disappearances and resolve the situation before they become the next targets.

Tanaka-san delivers a recap of the first half of Kuroshitsuji in an interlude episode, designated as episode 13.5. This summary increases the total episode count of the series to 25.

In "Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok," the trickster god Loki from Norse mythology is banished to the human world after a careless prank, transformed into a child as punishment. To regain passage back to the divine realm, he must collect the malevolent energies corrupting human souls. He sets up a detective agency for this purpose, assisted by Mayura, a human girl with a passion for solving mysteries who contributes her own abilities. Complications emerge when various other Norse gods start appearing, many seeking Loki's destruction for reasons that remain mysterious at first.

Two recap episodes were shown prior to each broadcast day of Owarimonogatari 2nd Season. Episode 0.5 (before Mayoi Hell) - Owari ni Mukau Monogatari (Heading Towards the End of the Story): Voice actor Hiroshi Kamiya, who portrays Araragi, revisits key moments from Koyomi Vamp, Mayoi Maimai, Shinobu Time, Yotsugi Doll, Koyomi Nothing, and Koyomi Dead. Episode 4.5 (before Ougi Dark) - Araragi Koyomi no Monogatari (Araragi Koyomi's Story): Yui Horie, the voice actress for Hanekawa, looks back on Araragi’s experiences over the past year, summarizing all the events that have unfolded throughout the series.

In "Dekin no Mogura: The Earthbound Mole," university students Kuriaki Magi and Yaeko Kirihara witness a strange event where a man is struck on the head but remains unharmed. When they catch up to him, they learn he is Momoyuki Mogura, a man blessed with immortality. Initially doubtful, Magi and Yaeko start to reconsider as they encounter various apparitions. Mogura explains these are the spirits of the dead that produce demon fire, a luminous phenomenon that guides souls after death. Denied access to this fire, Mogura has spent years collecting spiritual remnants, hoping to eventually join the afterlife. With Magi and Yaeko helping him search for more spirits, Mogura may finally achieve his unusual goal.

In "Vampire Holmes," the famous detective Holmes does not investigate ordinary crimes or rely on reasoning; he chases vampires instead. The series is told in three-minute episodes, following Holmes and his assistant on their adventures. Initially appearing as a normal detective agency, their situation shifts to the supernatural when the London Metropolitan Police secretly ask Holmes and Hudson to look into vampire matters. Holmes might frame it that way, but the truth is they mostly quarrel and never solve any cases. Accompanying them is Kira, a surprisingly upbeat demon cat, and their stern landlady, who is always asking for rent. This is the story of the person who was definitely not London's greatest detective.
