Synopsis
The music video for the song "Kappa no Kui Kuo Kua," performed by Japanese vocal group Duke Aces and actress Nobue Ichitani, was broadcast on NHK's Minna no Uta program. Yoji Kuri created the animation, which originally aired in 1975. Though the video was once believed to be lost media, it was later recovered thanks to the Minna no Uta Hakkutsu Project.
Background
The Minna no Uta Hakkutsu Project started in 2009 and is an initiate to archive ~500 lost songs from the program due to loss of master tapes, audio, and film from 1961-1982. Due to the copyright law of the time, price of film reels, and overwriting tapes. Similar issues plagued the BBC (e.g. Doctor Who missing episodes). By 2016, 220 songs were recovered with 100 of them being music videos.
