Fourteen-year-old Lain Iwakura, a shy and socially awkward student, receives a peculiar email from Chisa Yomoda, a classmate who has recently taken her own life. Despite having no interest or experience with technology, Lain opens the message, which transports her into the Wired, a digital communication network akin to the real-world internet. Her existence is upended as she faces a series of enigmatic puzzles. Individuals known as the Men in Black start appearing in her vicinity, interrogating her with knowledge of her life that surpasses her own self-awareness. As the line between physical reality and cyberspace grows increasingly indistinct, Lain is drawn into increasingly surreal situations that challenge traditional notions of identity, consciousness, and perception. Created by Chiaki J. Konaka, the creator of Texhnolyze, Serial Experiments Lain is a psychological, avant-garde mystery that tracks Lain’s pivotal decisions, which resonate across both the tangible world and the Wired. Only Lain can grasp the true weight of these dual existences as one realm closes and another opens.

One chilly December day, Kyon heads to school expecting another outing with his SOS Brigade comrades. But to his astonishment, nearly everything has drastically altered: Haruhi Suzumiya and Itsuki Koizumi are missing; Mikuru Asahina has no memory of him; Yuki Nagato is an ordinary human; and Ryouko Asakura has inexplicably reappeared. Though no stranger to the supernatural, Kyon is unsettled by this strange development and sets out to investigate alone. Realizing he is the sole person who recalls the former reality, Kyon faces a tough decision: accept the ordinary life he once craved, or find a way to reverse time and restore his chaotic but familiar world.

In Shibuya, a string of murders known as the "New Generation Madness" has become a major topic of conversation among locals as the crimes grow in notoriety. However, these "New Gen" killings fail to interest Takumi Nishijou, a high school otaku prone to delusions who feels like he is always being watched. With no concern for the real world, Takumi spends his days playing online games and watching anime. But his mundane life is shattered when he receives a gruesome image of a man impaled on a wall from a user named Shogun. After calming down at an internet cafe, Takumi witnesses the exact murder scene from the image unfold right before his eyes, alongside a pink-haired girl covered in blood calling his name. Struggling with the nature of reality, Takumi finds it hard to decide where to place his trust as he becomes entangled in the "New Gen" murders, convinced that the killer is after him.

In the quiet town of Inaba, a string of serial murders has baffled the police, who have made little progress. Amidst this unsettling atmosphere, Yuu Narukami relocates to the area to stay with his uncle for a year while his parents work abroad. He begins attending Yasogami High School, where he quickly becomes friends with Yousuke Hanamura, Chie Satonaka, and Yukiko Amagi. One day after school, the group tells Yuu about an urban legend called the "Midnight Channel"—a TV show that supposedly airs only at midnight on rainy nights when the viewer is alone. Intrigued, Yuu decides to check it out that night. Instead of the expected broadcast, he sees the face of the next murder victim. Stranger still, he feels a strange pull toward the television, which sparks the curiosity of his friends and leads them to investigate further. Yuu eventually tumbles into the strange realm inside the TV, a place shrouded in thick fog and filled with dangerous beings known as "Shadows." Convinced that this alternate world holds the key to the murders, the group forms the Investigation Team, determined to solve the mystery behind the horrifying incidents.

After a series of events, Albert befriends the Count and brings him into French high society. However, the Count has motives beyond friendship; he is planning to finally carry out his revenge on those who wronged him years ago. Gankutsuou follows the intertwined fates of Albert and the Count, and the ultimate cost of exacting vengeance.

A wave of horrific killings known as the "New Generation Madness" once caused widespread panic throughout Shibuya. At the height of the chaos, as a violent riot raged, a sudden earthquake reduced the district to rubble while nearby areas remained oddly untouched. Half a dozen years later, in the newly reconstructed Shibuya, strange deaths begin resurfacing. It doesn't take long for third-year student Takuru Miyashiro to notice a pattern: the dates of these recent murders line up with those of the New Generation Madness incidents. Together with a few members of his school's newspaper club, he decides to probe the mystery further—only to end up trapped in the middle of a fresh crime scene.

The narrative centers on Maya, the daughter of the former headmaster of Waldstein Academy, and a time-traveling agent named Fumiaki Uchida. In 2012, aliens invaded the world, prompting time travelers to be sent back to 1999 with the mission of locating and destroying the Nostradamus Key—an object foretold by Nostradamus's prophecy to trigger the apocalypse. The story then shifts to 1999, where Maya returns to the Academy intending to dismantle it by taking over her late father's position as principal. Her plan is disrupted when she meets Fumiaki and learns about the impending catastrophe. Despite her distrust of Fumiaki, they form an alliance to search for the Nostradamus Key. To locate the Nostradamus Key, time agents are given specially designed cell phones. When a user encounters an object of interest, they think about destroying it and take a photo. If the resulting image shows a peaceful world, the object is the Nostradamus Key; if it shows destruction, the object is not the key. Using this phone, Maya and Fumiaki investigate occult phenomena as they arise in the town.

Spring. Far removed from the city, time passes quietly in this countryside town. As cherry blossom petals drift on the breeze, a boy named Yu Narukami alights from the train at Yasoinaba Station. Yu has come to this town, where his uncle resides, due to family circumstances; he will be transferring to the local school, Yasogami High. And so his school life begins... The shopping district after class. A string of murders occurring in the town. The Midnight Channel, broadcasting late at night... What awaits Yu and his companions 'this time around'?

In Ayanagi City, a seaside metropolis built to facilitate recovery from the "Apathy Syndrome" disaster a decade earlier, high school student Shin Kanzato and his younger brother Jun reunite with their elder brother Ryou, the chief of the Ayanagi City Police, after ten years apart. Around this time, a series of bizarre incidents plague the city: a submarine crew vanishes without a trace inside their vessel, a listless symptom resembling the Apathy Syndrome resurfaces, and a student is found gruesomely mutilated in an "inside-out corpse" case. As Ryou investigates the organization behind these events, Shin becomes entangled in the incidents and awakens his "Persona."

Silent Sky is a compilation of the supplementary episodes 13 and 14. It tells a story set three months after an incident resembling "New Generation Madness" and the Chaos Child Syndrome triggered by the past earthquake in Shibuya.
